For Great Hops, Step Into The Valley: Hop Harvest 2025

A look back at our visit to the hop capital of the world.

Every fall, our brewing team packs up and heads north for one of the most important trips of the year: Hop Selection.

It’s when we travel straight to the farms of the Pacific Northwest to choose the hops that will shape next year’s beers. Most of our time is spent in Washington’s Yakima Valley where more than 70% of the world’s hops are grown, with a few key stops in Oregon along the way.

From Whirlwind to Tradition

What began as a whirlwind journey through Central Washington has evolved into something much more grounded.

Today, Hop Selection is about showing up, listening, and learning from the people who dedicate their lives to growing the hops we love. We walk the rows they’ve tended for generations, ask questions, and gain a deeper appreciation for the craft and stewardship behind every cone.

It’s a chance to strengthen relationships built on mutual respect and a shared passion for creating something special, hops that growers take pride in cultivating and brewers are honored to showcase.

The Heart of the Harvest

Our crew, President of Brewing Joe Mohrfeld, VP of Brewing Jacob Passey, Director of Quality & Innovation Tom Fischer, and Director of R&D Trevor Kelly, have each made this trip for nearly a decade.

This year, they met with legends like Jason Perrault at Perrault Farms, Rich Van Horn at Van Horn Farms, the passionate team at CLS exploring HQG #4, HAAS’ new Longmire Ranch, Andy, Mike, and Drew at Roy Farms, and the St. Mary family at Black Star Ranch.

Every stop offered new lessons and reminders of why these relationships matter so much.

Shared Beers, Shared Ideas

The week also brought plenty of shared beers and laughter with our friends at Single Hill Brewing and Bale Breaker Brewing. Those hangouts always spark creativity and connection, a reminder that craft beer is as much about community as it is about hops.

When it came time to select, we were all in with our partners at Yakima Chief Hops and HAAS, rubbing through fresh lots of Mosaic, Simcoe, Citra, Krush, Galaxy, Eclipse, and more.

Each choice reflected the trust, care, and collaboration that keep great beer growing strong.

From Field to Glass

As we head into the next brewing season, these hops will find their way into both new recipes and returning favorites.

Every pint you enjoy at Pinthouse carries a piece of this journey, a shared story between grower, brewer, and beer lover that keeps our craft connected from field to glass.
