On April 1, 2025, we partnered with Our Shared Kitchen, whose mission is to increase access to nutritious food and fight hunger in the community by preparing and hand-delivering fresh, delicious meals to those experiencing homelessness and food insecurity in Austin Texas.

Our Shared Kitchen's hot meals are made from scratch in its commercial kitchen and are brought by volunteers directly to encampments and clusters around the city. The organization partners with local surplus food organizations to source free ingredients for its meals, enabling it to simultaneously reduce food waste and redistribute the rescued items to those that need them most.

Our Shared Kitchen Volunteer Opportunities:

Prepare Meals for the Homeless and Food Insecure

Meal preparation volunteers are crucial to our mission. Volunteers prepare, cook and package individual meals for our hot meal delivery service. The dishes we prepare change on a weekly basis, so each shift is different.

Hot Meal Service

Volunteers serve freshly-prepared meals directly to individuals experiencing homelessness and food insecurity in Austin at Camp Esperanza (located at The Other Ones Foundation Headquarters). A brief introduction and training will be provided.

Food Pick-up & Delivery

We partner with local surplus food organizations like Keep Austin Fed and Save the Food Austin to source free ingredients for our meals, enabling us to simultaneously reduce food waste and redistribute the rescued items. Volunteers will pickup food donations and transport it to our commercial kitchen at Prep ATX.

While there are many amazing organizations in this space, Our Shared Kitchen's mobile delivery model, paired with its dedication to nutritious meals, positions it to meet a unique need of the unhoused community. Our Shared Kitchen's meals are prepared with great care, and with a focus on taste and the nutritional needs of the individuals it serves so that each plate is both nourishing and satisfying.
